About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a flexible part-time Laboratory Assistant to join their Bowen Hills Bowel Cancer Screening Laboratory, IFOBT.

This laboratory provides cancer screening analytical services to the Commonwealth Health Department National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. Some of your key duties will include:

  • Receipting into the LIS, preparing for analysis and storage of Bowel Cancer Screening tubes;
  • Operating and managing automated instruments;
  • Maintaining an organised and efficient work environment; and
  • After suitable training, assisting in another laboratory on Level one, such as Microbiology (workload in the IFOBT laboratory can vary significantly, so this may be required in quiet periods).

The successful applicant will have:

  • Strong organisational skills and team focus;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Enthusiasm for taking on extra duties if required;
  • Sound communication skills and understanding of computers;
  • Proven commitment to the provision of quality internal and external customer service; and
  • Previous laboratory experience (preferred, not essential).

The position is for a minimum of two shifts per week on a Thursday and Friday, with the flexibility to pick up other shifts when necessary to cover for staff absences due to leave or illness. 

The laboratory currently operates between the hours of 07:30 - 17:00 Monday to Friday only. Shifts will be rostered within the operating hours of the laboratory. However, extension of hours outside of these time frames may be required commensurate with workload. During busy periods Saturday and/or some public holiday overtime might also be required under some circumstances. Please note however, that the organisation is committed to ensuring a healthy work/life balance for all staff. The organisation's Bowen Hills premises offers easy access to public transport.
